The families of Turkish nationals who lost their lives during a Daesh shooting spree at an Istanbul nightclub have held funeral ceremonies for the victims.
Eleven of the 39 people, who were gunned down during the New Year’s celebrations, were from Turkey and the rest foreign nationals. The carnage took place in the early hours of Sunday when a lone assailant entered the overcrowded nightclub and opened fire. Some 70 were also rushed to hospitals. The Daesh terrorist group on Monday claimed responsibility for the violence. Meanwhile the operation to find the gunman is underway. Police have detained eight suspects so far. Authorities believe the attacker is a Central Asian national, most probably from Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan. They also found similarities between the shooting with a June bombing and gun attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport that left 47 people dead.
